Creating in Confinement is a powerful art exhibit showcasing a variety of mixed media, including photography and paintings, created by individuals incarcerated in the Maine prison system. This exhibit is organized by the Maine College of Art & Design’s (MECA&D) Public Engagement program, in collaboration with the Maine Prisoner Advocacy Coalition (MPAC)—a group dedicated to improving conditions for inmates, former inmates, their families, and victims of crime across the state.

About the Maine Prisoner Advocacy Coalition (MPAC) MPAC is a statewide group formed in 2007 to improve conditions for inmates, former inmates, their families, victims of crime, and others. Our coalition members include, most importantly, offenders, and their families and friends. Our organizational colleagues include groups well known for their powerful commitment and continued struggle for human rights: NAACP, ACLU, NAMI, Maine Council of Churches, MERN; and individuals dedicated to social justice and humane treatment of all people.
