The Francis is an exclusive property where every guest reservation is both important and special to us. If you have special requests or questions regarding your reservation, please contact us directly.
Masks must be worn in all common areas of the hotel.
In order to provide our staff and guests with the safest possible environment, we will not enter your room during your stay for housekeeping services. We will stock your room appropriately for your entire stay with extra towels, soaps and coffee and have an Amenity Station located in the hotel for anything else you may need.

Check-In and Check-Out
Check-in starts at 3pm. Upon arrival, please pull into 747 Congress Street and onto the brick drive underneath our Porte-cochère. Your car can be left here during check-in which will take place in our lobby. A credit card and photo ID may be requested at check-in.
If you are planning to arrive later than 8pm, please let us know so that we can provide the proper instructions for you.
Check-out is at 11am.
Our team is also available via text 24/7 during your stay, we will provide our concierge number on arrival.
On your day of arrival, we will charge the balance of your reservation to the same credit card used for the deposit.
If your travel plans change and you must cancel your reservation, please call us at least 24 hours prior to your arrival date to cancel your reservation. Cancellations within the 24 hour window will incur a fee.
Full floor bookings must be canceled more than 5 days before arrival date to avoid incurring a fee.
Full property rental cancellation policies will be provided on request.
On the day of your arrival we will direct you to one of our two parking areas. All guests park at their own risk and The Francis and its affiliates do not accept liability for any accidents, damage or loss incurred while parked, either in these lots or anywhere else.
We are more than happy to host you and your pet during your stay with us in Portland. We reserve 4 rooms in our lower level for the use of families with pets. There is a $35 pet charge per night. A $250 cleaning deposit will be taken at check-in to be returned upon final inspection of the room after check-out.
Please follow the below policies during your stay:
– Keep identification on your pet at all times
– Pets must be accompanied by their owners at all times while on property and must remain on leash
– Pets are not allowed to bathe in hotel showers or bathrooms
– Please feed your pet in the tiled bathroom rather than on our carpet or wood floors to minimize any spillage or staining while eating and drinking
– Please wipe off muddy or wet paws before your pet enters the hotel
– Pets may not be left unattended for more than 2.5 hours on any given day. We understand parents of pet owners may want to enjoy an evening at a local restaurant but we ask that there are not extended periods of time when the pet is in the room alone.
– Your pet must be kept on a leash at all times in all public areas of the hotel
– The Francis staff and management reserve the right to enter a room if a pet is left alone to help mitigate a barking or crying pet or to make sure the pet is well tended
Quiet hours are from 10pm until 7am. Any guests interrupting the quiet enjoyment of other guests during these hours are subject to removal at management’s discretion.
Missing Items, Lost Items and Additional Fees
Retail items that have left the room are considered bought and sold and the credit card we have on file will be charged accordingly.
– Missing Bose Soundlinks will incur a $250 charge
– Missing robes will incur a $100 charge
– Lost keys will incur a $40 charge
The Francis is a non-smoking property including e-cigarettes and vaporized inhalants. Failure to comply will incur a $250 fee.
The Francis reserves the right to charge repairs and incidentals that exceed standard housekeeping cleaning.
The hotel fee of $15 per night helps cover the extra costs of maintaining our historic building and keeping it on the historic registrar.
All gift certificate purchases are final and non-refundable with the entire gift certificate amount due at the time of purchase. Gift certificates are redeemable for both hotel purchases and spa purchases. All gift certificates are valid for 1 year from the date of purchase.

Gem in Portland!
So glad we stayed at the Francis on a recent weekend getaway to Portland. The hotel is charming, the rooms are large, the service was great, and there are wonderful small touches throughout the property. The surrounding area is less touristy than near those hotels in Old Port, but we found that to be a net positive. There are a number of excellent bars and restaurants within walking distance (try Hot Suppa, Bao Bao, and The Bramhall). Would definitely stay here again.
Lovely Boutique Hotel
Accommodations were great - room was comfortable & clean. Staff was helpful & welcoming. The location was good for sightseeing - we were able to walk around Portland from there.
The Francis is a beautiful boutique hotel with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Staff went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable Rooms are very clean and unique , Bose speaker to use while taking a shower. The Francis is so conveniently located close to the downtown Portland shops and just across from a great bakery and coffee shop... this is a must stay ... we will definitely be back.
Favorite place in Portland
Great place to stay. Staff was wonderful. Clean and new accommodations. We were able to get an early check in and a late checkout via text message. I would recommend getting the Terrace if possible!!!

Our stay was during the covid19 pandemic. The staff was super friendly and due to limited numbers of travelers, we felt like we had the place to ourselves. It feels like a hotel meets bed and breakfast. There is a lot of charm and character and it is cozy. Great beds and wonderful showers.
